MTS Delivering Effective Healthcare for Scotland
MTS provides disposable compliance aids for medication management to improve the accuracy and compliance of the patient taking prescribed medications. This is particularly important for psychiatric patients and patients suffering from memory loss or dementia. It is proven that non-compliance increases the risk of relapse and hospital re-admission.
“As a long-established, pharmacy-led organisation delivering solutions for medication management, MTS understands the importance of improving patient compliance and the implications of non-adherence on the well-being of the patient.
“At every stage of the process the organisation was amply able to demonstrate its understanding of the process of delivering effective healthcare to the resident population of Scotland and provide flexible solutions best suited to achieving that.
“MTS is unique in that it is a ‘one stop shop’ able to provide solutions through from manual compliance systems (blistering) through to fully automated systems. Its scalability and flexibility make it a preferred partner of choice for public sector organisations focused on improving healthcare outcomes across all sectors of the community.” Colette Whigham, Category Manager, Pharmacy, National Procurement.
The Department of Health’s White Paper: “Pharmacy in England: building on strengths – delivering the future”. The Paper aims at utilising skills and reducing pressure on GP surgeries and hospitals and includes comment on the management of medicines in domiciliary environments, maintenance of patients with long term, chronic illnesses such as asthma and also treatments for minor complaints; it also includes comment on advances in technology that can aid the process of releasing pharmacists from their role as ‘dispensers’ so they can focus on patient care.

Editor’s Notes
MTS, founded by a practicing pharmacist in 1984, developed the first automated packaging machine to fill and seal medications into disposable punch cards and now has a product line that includes more than 20 packaging machines and 50 types of disposable products.
MTS aims to provide cost effective, high quality products which meet and exceed the requirements of its customers, while also providing financial returns to it shareholders to encourage them to invest further in the company. These twin objectives ensure that MTS remains a cost effective partner for the public sector, and offers them long term security in terms of continuing high quality product development without recourse to open book costing.
It is MTS’s proven expertise and ability to improve compliance among patients, demonstrate increased financial efficiencies for public sector organisations, free up valuable human resources to be redeployed, and improve pharmacy workflow that drives the development of all its products and services and its approach to working with public sector organisations.
In line with the public sector requirements for continuous improvement and ‘Best Value’ MTS is developing e-commerce trading services which will deliver further cost savings to the public sector through a variety of eProcurement initiatives such as CD Roms, online and Web-based catalogues and an eProcurement website.
